Oanaka EduCare Connor Street 2011

At Last...an August Update!

We're all gearing up for the Rugby World Cup. The Kahikatea children, teachers and parents are going to Cromwell on September 2nd to see some of the All Blacks. We've had T Shirts printed, been practising our National Anthem and the haka, studied the flags of our own and other countries and also refined our rugby skills.

Our first taste of Rippa Rugby.

Our enthusiasm for 'ripping' tags means that sometimes we rip our own team!

Richie, the tackler needs to remember to RELEASE the player!

Team photo...or photo-shoot?

That's better!

Straight back into it with renewed enthusiasm.

If the 'Three Wise Men' wish to come scouting for talent at Oanaka Connor Street we are available for negotiation about players contracts!

Snow Day August 15th

We waited for a super dump of snow...we crossed our fingers and toes.  How excited we all were...some of the teachers hoped for a day at home but alas our intrepid directors Barry and Chris were on hand to drive them to and from work! Oanaka @ Connor Street and Riverside were the only two centres/schools open in Wanaka - how's that for making sure we meet the needs of our families?

Before we all got outside to play in our very own picture perfect playground.

The Kanuka and Kowhai children went on a walk across the road to our favourite field.
We made lots of footprints and compared the different sizes...

We shared magical moments with our best friends...

We experimented with sitting and lying in the snow...

Our very clever teachers even brought some inside the classroom for us to explore
when our fingers and toes got too cold!

After catching the tadpoles, watching them change then enjoying the new frogs the Kahikatea children and teachers went on an excursion to our local Stone Street stream to release them. The weather was glorious as you can see from the photos below.

Setting out from the centre after revisiting all our excursion 'rules'.

Patrick went at the back to make sure we didn't leave anyone behind!

We sat carefully at the edge of the stream and talked about what we could see.

Harriet was brave and stood IN the stream to release the frogs.

We watched and we waited to see where the frogs went...

When they had gone away we talked about all the times we'd been to the water and all the things we'd seen.

Corrina watched closely as Cooper spied who was under the bridge. A troll???

We were able to have races in the lovely green field beside the stream.

But then we had to go back to EduCare...for afternoon tea! Yum!
